Company unveils latest additions to its Storage Delivery Network at leading emerging technology conference
SAN DIEGO – January 28, 2008 – Nirvanix today announced that it will be exhibiting its Storage Delivery Network to a sold out audience of entrepreneurs, corporate development executives, venture capitalists, and journalists at DEMO 08 at Desert Springs, a JW Marriott Resort & Spa, in Palm Desert, California, January 28 through 30. Nirvanix is the premier provider of Internet storage optimized for media. With its global cluster of storage nodes and patent-pending technologies collectively referred to as “The Storage Delivery Network” (SDN), Nirvanix allows any Internet-enabled application to scale instantly to meet the demands for hosting and delivering millions of media files such as consumer video, audio, photographs and documents.
Patrick Harr, Nirvanix CEO, is among the invited speakers who will be delivering a presentation demonstrating the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network and announcing the launch of newly-integrated media functionality in the Desert Ballroom January 30, starting at 2:30 p.m.
“The opportunity to be among the 70 most promising new technologies and have the chance to launch our latest enhancements to the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network at DEMO could not be passed up,” said Harr. “Nirvanix not only promises but delivers a unique online storage platform, propelling Internet-scale businesses to market fast and reliably with consistent end user performance globally. DEMO gives us a break from telling the world about it and lets us actually show the world. We have a customer who will demonstrate his product built on Nirvanix and tell us, in his own words, how he grew a business from zero to his first 200,000 accounts in the time it normally takes to set up a filer. For our customers 2008 is the year the storage box is dead.”
Nirvanix is announcing the opening of additional storage nodes in Europe and Asia, increasing Nirvanix’s network footprint and enabling the intelligent storage and movement of files, guaranteeing the best end user experience on a global scale. The company is also announcing the addition of several integrated server side Media Services including:
Integrated Media Transcoding: Two new web service API methods, one for video and one for audio, allow developers to take media files stored in the system in a particular format and create new files in different formats or codecs. For example, the end user of a Nirvanix-enabled application can upload a high-definition video from her home and later select it from a list of thumbnail frames and watch the video on her cell phone or PDA at a lower frame rate, smaller size and different codec or file format.
Integrated Image Manipulation: In addition to providing a method to resize images, Nirvanix is introducing new methods for rotating and flipping those images. Now, Nirvanix eliminates the complexity and processing required to create web photo albums with thumbnails and rotated/flipped pictures.
Integrated File Search: This service is implemented with three new API calls that allow programmers to search for files based on file system, metadata or tag information. Developers can locate files for end users without the cost of downloading them or the complexity of storing metadata to search locally.
Additional Backup and File System Functionality: In addition to handling very large files, Nirvanix now allows uploading file differential updates so that very large backup files can receive smaller updates efficiently and cost-effectively. This function, in combination with new File Overwrite capabilities and handling of MD5 hash, sets Nirvanix as the most advanced Internet Media File System available.
Virtual Domains: To enable tighter integration between applications and the Nirvanix storage infrastructure and full control of our customer’s brand, Virtual Domains enable customers to mask all references of a third-party storage infrastructure. Customers can expose hosted URLs, or REST calls with their own domain in all URLs.
The expansion of the Network and increased functionality allow businesses to focus on building and perfecting their core application instead of managing storage servers and server side media processes. Developers report saving many months in the product development cycle due to Nirvanix’s industry-leading API and developer support.
According to Chris Shipley, Executive Producer of the conference, “DEMO conferences are committed to identifying and spotlighting cutting-edge technologies and Nirvanix definitely fits the description. We are pleased that attendees will get to see and hear about the exciting Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network that allows emerging companies and corporate divisions to forego the building, management, complexities and costs involved in building their own data centers.”
Produced by Network World Events and Executive Forums, the semi-annual DEMO conferences focus on emerging technologies and new products, which are hand-selected from across the spectrum of the technology marketplace. The DEMO conferences have earned their reputation for consistently identifying tomorrow’s cutting-edge technologies, and have served as launch pad events for companies such as Palm, E*Trade, Handspring, and U.S. Robotics, helping them to secure venture funding, establish critical business relationships, and influence early adopters. Each DEMO conference features approximately 70 new companies, products and technologies. For more information, visit www.demo.com.
